Following her FVA Active Volunteer Award earlier this year, Ruby McDonald, 17, from Glenrothes, has seen her success go from strength to strength.

Ruby was an award winner at the FVA Volunteer Awards 2023 for her volunteer work with children and special needs.

Taken into care at a young age, Ruby was diagnosed with foetal alcohol syndrome which has caused learning disabilities. her foster mum, Fiona, is a registered foster carer with Fife Council, and has supported and encouraged Ruby in all that she does.

In addition to her volunteer work, Ruby competes in sports and is particularly talented in swimming. She has won numerous awards and medals, including five medals at this year's Scottish Learning Disability Sport summer games. Ruby has recently joined Scottish Disability Sport's young person's sports panel.

Ruby's accomplishments have been recognised at the Fostering Excellence Awards 2023, where she won The Fostering Network Award for Young People.

To top off a phenomenal year, Ruby's a finalist at The Scottish Sports Awards 2023. We wish Ruby the best of luck!
