At November's Health & Social Care Forum, we heard from two amazing services in Fife.

Martin Christie, Chair of Dunnikier Park Golf Club, told us about The Power of Park Golf.

Park Golf originated in Japan, and Dunnikier Park Golf is the first of its kind in the UK. Park Golf involves a mallet-style club, a ball and a small course and is accessible to players of all ages and abilities.

Park Golf aims to raise self-esteem and confidence, build a successful pathway to golf, support healthier lifestyles, and strengthen community engagement. It's a great way to get active, spend time outdoors, socialise, improve mental wellbeing, give a sense of achievement, and above all else - have fun.

We enjoyed hearing about their Care Home League, where eight care homes signed up to play against each other. There are also a wide range of partners including Alzheimer Scotland, Phoenix Futures, Salvation Army, Fife Council Youth Justice, and much more.

Dunnikier Park Golf are looking for partners and organisations to grow their 'Golf for Health' initiative and improve health and wellbeing in the local community. They have capacity to host more and would love to hear from organisations in Fife.

Find out more on their Facebook page or via their website

Chloe Fleming and Stephen McLeod from Alzheimer Scotland talked about their Fife Outreach Service.

Alzheimer Scotland's Community Connexions Outreach helps to improve community knowledge and engagement about Alzheimer's, and also helps the person and families with Alzheimer's.

Their aims are to support and build confidence and skills at home, firstly by building trust. There is up to 12 months ongoing support available.

Community Connexions is the only Alzheimer's support service of its kind in Scotland and serves the people of Fife. It's for both the person with Alzheimer's as well as their family.

Referrals can come from health professionals, third sector organisations, or self-referral. No formal diagnosis is required.

They welcome everyone to get in touch or drop into their resource centre in Kirkcaldy.

Find out more on their website.

We look forward to seeing you at next month's Forums -

Mental Health Forum on Thursday 14 December.

We have two speakers lined up:

    • Hannah Grubb from Fife Health & Social Care Partnership will hold discussions focussed on the experiences people face that contribute to Mental Health and Wellbeing Challenges, what motivates people to seek help, and what barriers people face
    • Mark Goodall from Fife College will engage the group and seek ideas regarding a campaign around men's mental health

Fife Befriending Forum on Wednesday 20 December. This session is focused on networking and getting to know our peers in the third sector. Come along for an informal chat and pre-Christmas cheer.
