A study published by Shaping the Future with Volunteering, has discovered that four out of five people believe volunteering improves their wellbeing.

The study included almost 29,000 people who volunteer for 10 large charities including National Trust, RSPCA, British Red Cross and Trussell Trust. 80% of respondents agreed that their lives were enriched by giving up their time to help others.

Key highlights of the study include:

    • Almost 70% of people gained new skills and knowledge through the training they received while volunteering
    • Almost 80% said they felt they had the right level of training to fulfil their volunteering role
    • 85% of respondents said they would recommend their charity as a great place to volunteer
    • Almost 90% of people said they feel comfortable being themself while volunteering and/or expressing their opinions freely
    • 71% said the charity they volunteered for communicated well with them

The research shows that volunteering is good for you and that volunteers have a positive experience. It's important to share ideas, experiences and support across the sector to continue this excellent work.
