The Muirhead Outreach Project is an early intervention charity based in Glenrothes. Their mission is to reduce isolation, minimise the impact of childhood/family trauma and improve the wellbeing and self-esteem of children and families. They achieve this by giving families a sense of belonging, a sense of achievement, and a realisation that life can be good. Muirhead's approach is trauma-informed and they support the whole family.The Role
Muirhead have part-time, flexible vacancies for two Family Support Workers. The Family Support Worker will assist families by building positive relationships and teaching them how to do the same. A Family Support Worker is passionate, compassionate, non-judgmental and trustworthy. You must be confident and have the ability to make connections and form working relationships with families that come to us looking for our support.
A Family Support Worker provides both one-to-one and group support to families through the unique Foundation Work and additional support services. Over a typical week in the role, you will:
- Spend time with other team members - attending a referral panel for example
- Be responsible for completing necessary paperwork
- You may have a new family to see or an assessment to complete with a new referral
- Support your families through the Foundation Work, and attend and facilitate a parents' group
- You may have a meeting to attend with another organisation such as the school one of your young people is at, or a training and networking event
- You will be expected to promote and take part in fundraising activities that are organised by the Charity Development Officer
Qualifications
At least an HNC or equivalent in a relevant field is essential. Previous experience in a relevant field is desirable. Willingness to learn to gain further skills, training, and qualifications for the job. A full driver's licence is required. Candidates should also:
- Have the ability to communicate to service users, colleagues and other professionals effectively both verbally and in writing
- Be a great listener, this is essential as often people who need support share some sensitive information
- Be respectful of privacy and confidentiality
- Be empathetic and understanding towards others
- Have an awareness of, or be willing to learn through workplace training, about ACES, trauma, and the impact on presenting behaviours of individuals, and be able to respond in a trauma-informed manner
- Have a good understanding of, or work towards having an understanding of, child development and child wellbeing
- Have a high standard of IT skills, as computer work is essential
- Be willing to uphold the service values and work to the aims and objectives of Muirhead Outreach Project
- Work towards ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all the families, both adults and children, they work with and uphold safeguarding and child protection policies in accordance with SHANARRI
- Have an awareness of their own needs and be transparent about anything that may impact on their ability to do the job
- Be dynamic and creative
- Possess good problem-solving skills
- Be able to work as part of a great team but also have the initiative and confidence to work independently and make decisions based on the best interests of the service or the client
