    Name:  Andrew Mahady
    Role: Lived Experience Team Facilitator

During lockdown I started slacklining to improve my mental wellbeing. Slacklining is essentially walking along a slack length of strapping that’s suspended between two points (trees or poles are often used). It takes balance, focus, and co-ordination to stay on the line while slacklining, making it a great movement practice for mindfulness and physical exercise. Walking on a tight rope blanks out my mind as I must focus on breathing, movement and balance to walk the distance.I have dyspraxia, so being able to walk 90ft on a line has given me better balance and I fall a lot less.

I also love candles, long boarding and bouldering. I started climbing in 2021 at Eden Rock in Edinburgh before moving to Glasgow to do it there.

Climbing has got me fitter, stronger, and more focused on my abilities, where long boarding has allowed me to know I can pick up activities any time in my life and I’m not limited by my dexterity.

If you want time to yourself, improvement to posture, build of muscle and the ability to enjoy things solo without human interaction, start an activity. Give yourself the choice of including people rather than it being a must.
