Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation (SIMD) in Fife
Created: 10/03/2014The Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation (SIMD) is the Scottish Government's official tool for identifying levels of deprivation across Scotland. The Country is divided into 6,505 datazones which each contain around 350 households. The datazones are ranked according to their level of deprivation with 1 being the most deprived and 6,505 the least deprived. These datazones are ranked across the whole of Scotland, meaning that when the most deprived communities are identified in Fife these are in the lowest % of SIMD ranking in Scotland. In total Fife has 87 areas in the lowest 20% in Scotland of which 6 are in the lowest 5%.
The SIMD uses multiple aspects of life to rate deprivation to gain the fullest possible picture of deprivation. These seven measures are:
The SIMD data breaks down each of these indicators so it is possible to look at individual aspects of deprivation for each area, as well as the overall level of deprivation.
We have developed an easy to use table of the dateazones in Fife ranked in the lowest 20% in Scotland. This information can be used to inform targeted interventions to these communities. This document can be found in the attachments below along with the SIMD map of Fife.
