Transport through the ages: Getting Around in Fife
Created: 02/04/2014This course will cover a number of themes around transportation methods and purposes and will run for a period of 8 weeks. From first settlers up to the construction of the Forth Road Bridge 50 years ago. We will be looking at trading routes, on sea and land, and developments from using animals for transport to wheeled vehicles, the introduction of steam and motorised vehicles (including the extensive tram system which existed in Fife).
We will discover how the economy, leisure, military demands and even acts of parliament led to progress. Participants will have the opportunity to do their own research and encouraged to bring their local knowledge to the group. With support of Fife Council this course is offered free of charge.
