    Course Aims:

    To provide space and time to revisit equality, diversity and human rights essentials, and explore their practical application in service delivery and employment - as managers and employees.

    To introduce and explore equality, diversity and human rights essentials in the context of the working and volunteering in the voluntary sector in Fife.

    By the end of the course participants will be able to:

    • Outline the key provisions of the Equality Act 2010, and the ‘Protected Characteristics’ detailed in the Act;
    • Describe and distinguish prejudice and discrimination, and explain in simple terms possible causes and known effects (impacts);
    • Access further guidance and resources online;

    Will have:

    • Had opportunities to consider health, social and economic inequalities and how these relate to the ‘Protected Characteristics’ (Equality Act 2010);
    • Considered equality, diversity and rights from a practice perspective;
    • Had time to review and reflect on key learning points, and consider what next;
    • Information about Fife Centre for Equalities facilities and services, and other key contacts including Hate Crime reporting mechanisms in Fife .

    Participants should rightly expect to leave feeling more confident in their knowledge and understanding of the subject matter, and in their ability to put the case for equality.

    Who should attend:

    Fife voluntary sector staff and volunteers with an interest in advancing equality and promoting a rights-based approach.

    Accreditation Information:

    A certificate of attendance will be issued.

    Course participants will receive a short handout at the session-end, with links to further reading, references and resources available online.
