Fife Business Diversity Awards are now OPEN!
Created: 17/06/2015These awards recognise the efforts of individuals and organisations who promote success in the world of work for people who face disadvantage in the labour market.
Last year's Employee Winner Peter Anderson said, "Doing something that really matters has changed my life’’ Peter was employed in the comic and magazine trade for most of his working life. He lost this job and his confidence following a degenerative heart condition diagnosis. Peter had no idea where to start looking for another job or where he could use his skills.
The Supported Employment Service helped Peter realise that comics and children were an ideal mix, and he began to canvas schools to use graphics for learning. His leap into the world of work at Newport Primary School has been momentous. The children who attend his classes, who have additional learning support needs are now thoroughly engaged in learning through the use of Peter's comics.
Fife Provost and Local Councillor Jim Leishman who opened last year's event said, "Employment services are instrumental in ensuring that people who face disadvantage in finding a job are given the encouragement, guidance and support they need to find and keep jobs, something that many of us take for granted. Fife can be rightly proud of the innovation and partnership working that goes on to achieve the success that we celebrate today. I’d also like to commend Fife’s employers who are providing work placement and paid jobs, breaking down barriers that prevent people achieving their work goals.”
