  • Call for participants: Reference Group on Poverty and Adequate Standard of Living

    Created: 04/08/2015
    News/Events Category: General News

The Scottish Human Rights Commission is recruiting a reference group of people with direct experience of poverty to shape the progress of Scotland’s National Action Plan and the Commission’s work more broadly. We would like to ensure that the reference group is representative of a range of experiences and voices.

We welcome anyone with direct experience of poverty to participate, including:

    • Disabled people who experience poverty
    • People who have mental health needs and experience poverty
    • People who have experienced homelessness
    • Single parents and families with children experiencing poverty
    • People with a job who experience poverty
    • People living in rural areas who experience poverty
    • Asylum seekers and refugees who experience poverty
    • People with experience of food poverty
    • People experiencing fuel poverty
    • People from the south, east and north of Scotland who are experiencing poverty
    • People from ethnic minority communities who are experiencing poverty.

We will work together with the group to identify and promote ways in which international human rights law and a human rights based approach can tackle poverty and the barriers to achieving an adequate standard of living in Scotland.

It is likely that meetings will be held every two months or so. We recognise that people may experience a number of barriers to taking part in a project like this and we will be happy to support people in any way that we can for example with related expenses, dietary and accessibility requirements and any others.

For further information and to apply, please download the attached flyer.
