Cabinet Secretary approves Integration Scheme for Fife
Created: 22/09/2015 News/Events Category: General News
Fife is merging its health and social care services as part of new legislation introduced in 2014.
This means the Council and NHS Fife have formed a partnership to improve the way people in Fife access certain services, where both organisations have a part to play in providing effective care.
Fife’s ‘Integration Scheme’ is a legal requirement as part of the Scottish Government’s Public Bodies (Joint Working) (Scotland) Act 2014.
The Integration Scheme sets out the arrangements for the new joint Health and Social Care Partnership in Fife and the joint health and social care services for which it is responsible.
Fife submitted its Scheme at the end of March 2015, and this has now been approved by the Cabinet Secretary.
Director of the Health and Social Care Partnership Sandy Riddell thanked all those involved in this major piece of work, saying the approval of the scheme reflected everyone’s invaluable contribution.
Next steps
• The Integrated Joint Board (IJB) will be formally established on 3 October 2015. Cllr Andrew Rodger will Chair the IJB for a one year term.
• A full external and internal communications strategy is being developed to keep staff, partners and the public informed of this important milestone and what it means.
• There will be a 12 week consultation on the proposed Strategic Plan for the scheme, starting on 4 October 2015. The Strategic Plan sets out a vision for health and social care in Fife, identifies the values and funding principles along with an explanation of why Fife needs to change the way it plans and delivers services.
• Full delegation of responsibility will be transferred to the IJB by 1 April 2016.
Fife Voluntary Action is delighted with the progress being made and we’re proud that many of our staff play a part in the ongoing work to bring the scheme into operation. We’re looking forward to seeing what Health and Social Care Integration will look like for Fife, and will keep the public and the third sector at the heart of our work with the partnership.
