Empowering Families where a Parent has a mental illness - 2 day workshop
Created: 01/10/2015It is estimated that as many as 2 million children in the UK live in a household where a parent has a mental health problem. Children and young people living with a mentally ill parent or parents are at a significantly greater risk of developing short or long term emotional problems or other psycho-social difficulties.
This two-day evidenced based training package (16 November and 23 November) has been created to respond to the needs of these children and young people.
The training will address the following topics: Introduction to mental health and substance misuse; Living with a parent with mental health and/or substance misuse problems; being a parent with mental health and/or substance misuse problems; Impact on children's development; Stigma; Communication with children and families; Resilience; and Successful services.
This course is aimed at all workers from health, social work, education or the voluntary sector who come into contact with adults or children in families where one or both parents are suffering from a mental illness.
