  • 'Your Scottish Parliament' Communities Conference

    Created: 06/11/2015
    News/Events Category: Community Events

    When: 9.30am - 12.30pm and 12.30 - 4.30pm, Saturday 05 December 2015
    Where: Carnegie Conference Centre, Halbeath Road, Dunfermline, KY11 8DY

    It is too late to book a place for this particular session, sorry about that.

    This event is being held as part of Parliament Day – a flagship community outreach and engagement initiative, aimed at taking the Parliament out of Edinburgh and into communities across Scotland.

    This is a half-day conference (run in the morning and repeated in the afternoon), completely free of charge to attend, with lunch and refreshments provided.

    The conference will consist of a number of short workshops and presentations aimed at ‘skilling up’ community groups on how to engage effectively with MSPs and the Parliament. Workshops will cover a range of topics such as:
    • How to Submit a Public Petition;
    • How to Engage With Parliamentary Committees;
    • How to Engage Through Social Media; and
    • How to Work With Local Media (newspapers and radio) to bring your issue to the attention of MSPs.

    There will also be a ‘market place’ of information stalls covering other engagement methods such as Cross-Party Groups, etc.

    The Conference is aimed specifically at grass-roots, community-based organisations. Importantly, the event isn’t aimed at professional policy officers; rather it’s ideally suited for people who have little or no experience of engaging with their MSPs and the Parliament but who are keen to raise awareness amongst MSPs and others about the issues faced within local communities.

    Further information about the Communities Conference can be found here.

    Please note that attendance at the Communities Conference (including booking onto workshops) must be confirmed in advance.
