In 2010, the Scottish Government launched Scotland’s Dementia Strategy which set out a range of commitments in relation to dementia care, support and education. A year later, Promoting Excellence, a framework of skills and knowledge for health and social services staff was published. The framework is structured in four levels:
Dementia Informed (for base line knowledge);
Dementia Skilled (for those who have direct or substantial contact with people with dementia);
Enhanced (for those who have intense contact or are required to provide specific interventions);
Expertise (for those who play an expert specialist role in the care, treatment or support of people with dementia).
Course Aims
