    What's gender got to do with it?

    This 2 hour seminar will consider how gender and gender stereotypes impact on how we respond to violence against women, including providing appropriate services to survivors of domestic abuse and sexual violence.

    The course is suitable for both policy makers and front line staff in housing, education, NHS, CLD, social work and third sector who are working with victims, perpetrators or children. The course will examine the link between gender stereotypes and attitudes and behaviours towards women.

    The aim is to understand why the gendered analysis is essential in planning safe and appropriate services.

    Learning Outcomes/What you will learn:
    • Understand what is meant by the terms "sex" and "gender";
    • Explore the impact of gender stereotypes on constructions of gender expectations and behaviour;
    • Understand what a "gendered analysis" is and why it is essential in planning safe and appropriate services;
    • Understand why we have a Violence Against Women Strategy;
