    This event will:
    • Highlight the risks to public health and health inequalities and share the experience from across the UK of ongoing austerity and in particular the effects of welfare benefits reform;
    • Illustrate what we are doing in Scotland to mitigate the impact of austerity, and welfare benefits reform on public health and health inequalities, including the limitations we face and the opportunities we have with further devolved powers;
    • Highlight best practice in mitigating the impact of austerity and welfare benefits reform on public health and health in equalities;
    • Identify a UK-wide network to maintain dialogue and collaboration on public health, health inequalities and austerity.

    Programme
    Alex Neil MSP, Cabinet secretary for Social Justice, Communities and Pensioners’ Rights and Professor Sir Michael Marmot President elect of the World Medical Association and Director of the Institute of Health Equity will be there to present on the day.

    In addition, there will be opportunities to discuss a variety of public health and welfare reform issues in the breakout session planned (please choose your breakout session when registering)
