FEAT named "world leading mental health employability service"
Created: 28/03/2016 News/Events Category: General News
Fife Employment Access Trust (FEAT) and NHS Fife recently led Scotland’s first ever conference devoted to an emerging evidenced-based therapy which is helping to greatly improve employment outcomes for people with severe and enduring mental health conditions. Cognitive Remediation Therapy (CRT) is designed to improve abilities such as attention span, concentration, memory, planning and information processing, leading to improved everyday living. In Fife, CRT is delivered as part of an employability programme, Employ your Mind, and also being introduced to the Fife Individual Placement & Support Service (again a partnership between FEAT, NHS Fife and other employment support agencies).
The keynote presentation came from from Dr Clare Reeder, a Lecturer in Clinical Psychology at King’s College, London, and a recognised authority in the field, having written textbooks on CRT and contributed to every large research study on the topic.
Dr Reeder spent a day with staff from FEAT ahead of the conference and was so impressed that she hailed the combined work of FEAT and NHS Fife as the world-leading service of its kind.
Dr Reeder is keen to keep in touch with the team and already has requested staff take part in some research studies about the work, as the majority of existing research is academic and randomised control trials, whilst Fife are fully up and running and delivering the therapy, well ahead of all other services across the globe.
The full event was filmed and the key presentations and clips from a variety of workshops will soon be available to view at www.feat.org.uk for those who want to learn more.
