This one-day course is a basic introduction to gender-based violence, including domestic abuse and sexual violence. It is suitable for housing, education, NHS, CLD, social work and third sector staff who are working with victims, perpetrators or children affected by gender-based violence.
The course will examine the link between gender stereotypes and attitudes and behaviours towards women. It will define and explore domestic and sexual abuse, pornography and prostitution, setting these within the wider gender based violence framework. This course will also raise awareness of forced marriage and female genital mutilation and professional responses to these issues. Participants will also have agencies and organisations which can provide specific support and information signposted.
The aim is to develop a greater awareness and understanding of the nature of gender based violence, its impact and consequences.

Understand the nature of gender based violence
Develop an understanding of some of the different kinds of gender based violence
Recognise some of the behaviours associated with gender based violence
Understand the impact and consequences of gender based violence
