  • Smart Energy GB - Grant to support the roll-out of smart meters

    Created: 13/07/2016
    News/Events Category: Funding and Finance

The roll-out of smart meters is an important national modernisation programme. Everyone will be offered a smart meter by the end of 2020 and it's a priority to ensure all consumers are able to benefit from smart metering. You can find out more about the Programme by clicking here.

Smart Energy GB, the national consumer communications campaign for the smart meter rollout, is responsible for helping everyone in Great Britain understand smart meters, the national roll out and how to use their new meters to get their gas and electricity under control.

They have launched their Smart Energy GB in Communities Fund, a grants programme seeking applications from not-for-profit organisations that can reach groups who may face barriers to getting a smart meter. Grants of up to £10,000 are available for groups that work directly with one or more of the priority groups.

A larger grant fund, open from 06 June 2016, will provide funding between £10,000 and £25,000 for organisations with networks that could help reach priority groups.

The grant money must be used by Saturday 31 December 2016 and the closing date for applications is Friday 30 September 2016.

Alongside the grants funds, a new online resource centre will offer materials such as leaflets and training resources to any organisation that wants to help the people it works with to benefit from of a smart meter.

The fund is part of the Smart Energy GB in Communities Programme, which is delivered by a consortium of charities - National Energy Action and Energy Action Scotland, Media Trust, and Charities Aid Foundation (CAF).
