Important! The deadline for FBDA nominations has now been extended to 30 September.
Nominations are being invited for the Fife Business Diversity Awards (FBDA) 2016.
Hosted by Opportunities Fife Partnership, FBDA 2016 will recognise the success of businesses, organisations and individuals in Fife who excel in promoting the employment of people who face disadvantages in the labour market. People may experience disadvantage in finding and keeping a job due to personal issues, disability or health conditions, lack of work experience, skills or qualifications.
These awards specifically acknowledge determination, resourcefulness and originality in creating equal opportunities for all in the work place.
All shortlisted nominees will be invited to an Awards Ceremony on Friday 09 December 2016 at The Bay Hotel, Burntisland Road, Burntisland, Fife from 10.00am to 12.30pm. Refreshments and Buffet Lunch provided.
The deadline for nominations is Friday 30 September 2016.

Fife Provost and Local Councilor Jim Leishman who started the proceedings said, “Employment services ensure people disadvantaged in the labour market, are given the encouragement, guidance and personalised support they need to get a job. This event is fantastic at showing how far people can go, when they are given support to realise their potential in the world of work.”
Councillor Antony Martin, Chair of Opportunities Fife Partnership said, “Working in partnership with Fife's Employers we ensure people who face disadvantage, for whatever reason, are given the opportunity to secure and succeed in a job. Today's award winners have undergone a truly inspiring and life changing journey on their road to work, and hopefully this event highlights to employers that everyone who wants to work deserves a chance to show what they can do."

Gold Employee of the year (Health and Disabilities Category)
Nicola Montgomery has a facial disfigurement and hearing impairment. She endured extensive corrective surgeries that affected her physically and psychologically. Nicola challenged her overwhelming shyness by taking part in employment and training opportunities. At the time of winning the award she was working with Leonard Chesire helping other people lead fulfilling lives. Nicola said, “The best feeling is making a difference to people’s lives. At work I love helping people gain their own independence. Everyone deserves to be treated equally and not judged by their disability. If you believe in yourself and work hard you can accomplish anything.”
Gold Employee of the year (Youth Category)
Jamielee Dunnigan became the head figure of her family at a very young age as the main carer for her disabled father and grandmother. She didn’t do well at school, and in part this may have been due to a lack of confidence as a consequence of being severely dyslexic. She left school with no qualifications, difficulty reading and writing and was not contributing well within her community.
Jamielee began her journey towards work supported by Fife Council. She achieved a Certificate of Work Readiness and improved her reading, writing and IT skills. At the time of winning the award she was in paid employment at Room 2 in Kirkcaldy.
Gold Employee of the Year (Adult Category)
Leighton Cruikshank endured years of significant and overwhelming mental health issues before finding the support he needed to begin his journey towards work. His personal experience provided him with a unique insight into the impacts of disability and mental illness. He channelled his energies into helping young people with social, emotional and behavioural issues to find their own path to employment. His work colleague, Lynne Dair, who completed the nomination form said “It’s a pleasure work alongside Leighton, he is always supportive and keen to offer support. Given that he continues to work through his mental health issues, his achievements are truly exceptional. He has certainly been an inspiration and role model for me!”
Gold Winner, Achiever of the Year - Glenrothes
Pauline McConnachie lost part of her leg in a horrific accident on Christmas Eve in 1993. Despite the enduring physical and psychological effects of the loss of a limb, she achieved significant successes for herself and her community. As founding member of Fife Sailability, she said of her passion for sailing, “If you have a disability and have been restricted by it, the feelings of freedom and empowerment can be life changing” Pauline achieved success in work and is now a Student Support Assistant at Fife College.
