The Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation (SIMD) 2016 has been released. It includes an Introduction to SIMD 2016 which includes two Fife case studies.

    Key headlines include:

    • Many of Fife’s most deprived areas are concentrated in Central Fife, with some areas now showing as more deprived relative to other areas of Scotland. A changed picture is seen in relation to Health deprivation in Fife, but still within what might be expected for Fife’s size and population
    • Fife Council has produced a quick brief, and an overall map for Fife. Local maps are available on request
    • In absolute terms, there are now fewer people who are income or employment deprived since 2012.

The table below shows the absolute change in the Income and Employment domains by Area:

The Fife Council Research Team will be giving further consideration to results of SIMD16 and will reflect the findings from this through the Strategic Assessment process, and in a report that they plan to produce in the coming months on Deprivation in Fife.

Fife Voluntary Action and the Third Sector Strategy Group will also be using the data in SIMD16 to help inform strategic planning, policy and potential delivery priorities for the sector going forward.
