FVAWP - "Invisible Men" - Realities of the Sex Industry artwork
Created: 28/06/2017"Invisible Men" artwork was developed by a young political artist to bring the attitudes and behaviours of punters (men who buy sex) to the public view in a challenging but engaging way. This event features striking pieces of art using the words of "punters" as shared on an UK prostitution review site and explicitly highlights the harms and realities of the sex industry.
We cannot address violence against women (VAW) without looking at our culture and gender inequality. The sex industries exploit these inequalities, promoting themselves as legitimate businesses servicing needs. This event turns the spotlight onto these men and their choices to drive sexual exploitation. At a time when increasing financial pressures and limited alternatives are pushing vulnerable women (and men) towards the sex industry - this innovative and brave exhibition allows insight into how the women are treated.
This event wants to raise awareness of the Challenging Demand approach towards sexual exploitation and take the focus off the choices women who sell sex may make. This puts the focus on the punters or customers who choose to buy sex. We can't talk about prostitution without looking at punters. They need to be visible. In this exhibition - their words are starkly presented and unavoidable.
Due to content - this event is only for those aged over 18. The language used by the punters has not been altered. Some use very sexually explicit words and descriptions and others contain aggressive and sexually violent descriptions. During this training, there will be the opportunity to discuss the images and issues this has raised, as well as exploring the current landscape around prostitution in Fife.
