This conference on in Kirkcaldy Old Kirk is the story of those 50 years of ships sailing to the Arctic, and how and why attitudes changed here and globally, towards conservation and the study of whales as intelligent mammals. Speakers include:- Dr. Eric Graham: The Bounty Hunters and the Innuit. Dr. Rob David: The Story of "Abram", a Kirkcaldy Whaling Ship. Matt Ylitalo, B.Sc., B.A., M. Litt: Steamship, stowaways and Smithsonian Polar Bear. Sonja Heinrich, University of St. Andrews Sea Mammal Research Unit: From Whaling to Whale Science - why whales matter and how we study them. Also: Kirkcaldy's Beached Whales; Scots at Leith Harbour in South Georgia.
