The United Nations has designated 05 December as International Volunteer Day and the theme for 2017 is "Volunteers Act First", which highlights the important role volunteers play in responding to times of crisis. This event is celebrated worldwide in recognition of the positive solidarity of volunteers around the world who self lessly give up their time to help and support others.

Volunteers are often front-line responders for other all types of crises - from spontaneous natural disasters, volunteer telephone counsellors, or those who provide daily welfare checks on older people and people with disabilities that instigate emergency contact procedures when someone may have fallen at home.

At FVA we have followed this theme and created a special edition of our Volunteering in Fife bulletin. All the opportunities listed are from organisations that are Fife-based or have a service in Fife and are all related in some way to responding to times of crisis. You might be surprised at what's on offer!
