  • Health and Social Care Forum - October 2019

    Created: 7/16/2019, Updated: 10/3/2019

We are delighted to announce that The Integrated Cancer Journey (ICJ) Fife Team and Catriona from The Scottish Commission for Learning Disability (SCLD), will be joining us at the October health and social care forum.

    The Integrated Cancer Journey

The ICJ Team will be joining the forum to discuss the development of the project over the past year and the plans going forward for Fife. The Fife Health and Social Care Partnership and Macmillan Cancer Support are working with a range of partners across Fife to make sure people affected by cancer can access all the help they need – by making just one phone call. The service offers every newly diagnosed person with cancer in Fife a meeting with a dedicated one-to-one link officer. The worker will then help the person access a wide range of support, from benefits advice and emotional support or with other practical needs. Anyone currently living with cancer can also access the service by simply calling the team to arrange an appointment.

    Scottish Commission for Learning Disability

SCLD has been focussing on asset-based approaches to working with people who have learning disabilities. One of the findings from their commissioned research was that while there was evidence of good asset-based community work happening across Scotland, there was not much evidence that people with learning disabilities were included in this. SCLD have held a series of events to further discuss the theme and as a result of conversations in locations across the country; including at an event in Fife last year. They think that creating a practical guide to support people with learning disabilities, their supporters and people involved in community groups could be helpful. They are basing this around the Candidacy Framework which is an academic framework that considers why some groups in society may not access services and facilities as much as other groups. Catriona is attending the Forum to discuss this work and finding and to discuss the guide to ensure that it is accessible and useful.

    Who can attend?

The health and social care forum is open to any third sector organisation working within the health and social care sector in Fife. The forum is a fantastic space for third sector colleagues to come along and hear about key developments in health and social care in Fife and Nationally, discuss significant issues and network with other third sector organisations.
