Funding for unpaid carers in Fife to take a break
Created: 10/27/2021Unpaid carers in Fife can get up to £300 to help them get a break from their caring commitments.
The Creative Breaks Fund run by FVA, in partnership with Fife Carers Centre, Crossroads and Fife Young Carers is aimed at unpaid carers in Fife. The Scottish Government's Time to Live Fund provides funding through Shared Care Scotland to support carers in their highly valued role to enable them to take a short break from their caring responsibilities.
Carers can decide themselves what would provide that ’break’ - be it a straightforward holiday somewhere special; driving lessons to support them getting out and about or the technology to help them keep in touch with relatives and friends - whatever works for the carer.
Kenny Murphy, CEO at FVA, said “We are delighted to announce the availability of these funding sources that can support all Fife unpaid Carers and Young Carers enjoy activities that will enhance their lives with grants of up to £300 and will work in partnership with Fife Young Carers, Fife Carers Centre and Crossroads Fife to achieve this aim”.
Kirstie Howell, Manager at Fife Young Carers, said “The Time for Me money can be used for a variety of things from getting away for a short break to buying a bike so they can take shorter breaks to buy something that enables them to engage with a hobby. Young carers lives are impacted by their caring roles, and they don’t always get the same opportunities their peers do so I welcome anything that allows them to have respite and some well-deserved time to themselves”.

Background information:
The Time to Live funding programme of the Short Breaks Fund, operated by Shared Care Scotland on behalf of the Scottish Government is locally managed and administered by Fife Voluntary Action. The programmes supporting Carers include Creative Breaks and the Health & Social Care Partnership funded Time for Me program specifically for Young Carers. These funds are designed to ensure a fair and uncomplicated process that offers opportunities for all unpaid carers to have time away from their caring role.
