Fair Work First guidance
Created: 21/06/2023, Updated: 22/06/2023From 01 July 2023, all recipients of public sector grants will be required to pay all staff at least the Real Living Wage of £10.90 per hour as part of the Bute House Agreement and the Scottish Government's commitment to becoming a Fair Work Nation by 2025.
This condition does not apply to grants that were awarded before 01 July 2023, but the Government does expect that multi-year funding awarded before then will require the condition to be added for subsequent years of funding to be released. The condition applies to all staff sub-contracted as part of a government fund, not just those employed directly.
The Real Living Wate applies to all workers aged 16 or over. It does not have a tiered system like the National Living Wage set by the UK Government, which only requires full rates (£10.42 per hour) to be paid to workers over the age of 22; for workers aged under 18 and apprentices, the hourly wage can be as low as £5.28 per hour. This means younger workers can be paid almost half as much as older colleagues for the same work.
Fife Voluntary Action is proud that all of its staff receive a wage that exceeds the Real Living Wage.
