Save The Children will host a webinar on the topic of exploring core considerations and principles when listening to the voices of babies and young children.

Babies and very young children are a group who are very often overlooked when considering children’s rights, particularly in relation to their right to express a view, to have ‘voice’.

Rhona Matheson, Chief Executive of Starcatchers, will share how the organisation has developed a rights-based approach that puts the ‘voice’ of the baby at its heart.

Dr Steffi Keir who will introduce Save the Children UK’s new web-based resource on Young Children’s Voices, drawing on the history of their work in children's rights and their connections with leading experts in the field right now. Young Children’s Voices is the first theme to go up on the Early Years Knowledge Bank they are creating and testing collaboratively over the course of this year and next. They invite feedback and contributions to feed into future development.

Dr Lorna Arnott, University of Strathclyde, Approaches to research with young children.

Based on the data from her edited book Research through Play: Participatory Methods in Early Childhood, this presentation will offer an insight into the complicated world of research with very young children, using play inspired methods and methodologies. This presentation shares examples of what such research approaches can look like, while also articulating the tensions and dilemmas of conducting this work.
