In partnership with mental health charities across the UK, this new campaign asks whether or not the famous phrase ‘it’s okay to not be okay’ is actually the reality for those living with mental illness.

The If It’s Okay campaign focuses on giving a voice to those who are still made to feel shame for their illness.

They’re calling on everyone in Scotland – and across the UK – to come together and be part of the change and make sure no one ever feels shamed for having a mental illness.

    The Campaign

“It’s okay to not be okay” is one of the most famous lines in mental health campaigning, but for many people struggling with a complex and long-term mental illness, it doesn’t feel like it is okay.

The impact of feeling shame means many people hide a mental illness, even from those closest to them. This can stop them from getting the help and support they need, make them feel alone and lead to those living with a mental illness to withdraw from opportunities others may take for granted.

If It’s Okay campaign gives a voice to those who don’t feel like it’s okay and helps them to speak up about what they’ve gone through.

The impact of feeling shame means many people hide a mental illness, even from those closest to them. This can stop people from getting the help and support they need, make people feel alone and lead those living with a mental illness to withdraw from opportunities others may take for granted.

To change this members of the anti-stigma alliance have created If It’s Okay, a campaign running across Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and England.

You have a role in changing this, maybe someone close to you is struggling and feeling shame, it’s time for us all to play a part.

If it’s okay to not be okay, why are people still being discriminated against?
