They are a Community Interest Company (CIC – registration number SC674589). Their aim is to empower and enable communities to create a low carbon future, and promote local resilience and wellbeing. By working through this network, they share information, resources and knowledge whilst tackling the barriers to low carbon living in Fife. FCCAN also act as a channel of communication with Fife Council and the wider Scottish Communities Climate Action Network to whom they are affiliated. This post will be part of FCCAN’s Fife Climate Hub team, funded by the Scottish Government.
About The Role
The Community Development Officer (Engagement) will contribute to the delivery of Fife Climate Hub’s vision. The post holder will reach out to new and diverse audiences, beyond the people and communities who are already engaged on climate issues and encourage them to add climate action to their agenda. They will also support existing FCCAN members to build their capacity. The post holder will work through existing networks and with key Fife stakeholders to connect, inspire and support community groups to take action in a way that suits them.
They will also as act as a key liaison between the FCCAN’s members, partners and stakeholders. They will support groups to initiate, develop and run climate action projects and inspire climate action through a programme of events, talks and workshops. The post holder will work closely and collaboratively with the Community Development Officer (Funding), Senior Project Officer and Communications and PR Officer to ensure resources, funding and training opportunities are shared with groups and communities.
About You
You should have:
- Significant experience working with communities and building working relationships with diverse individuals and groups
- A good knowledge of climate change and environmental issues
- Experience planning and running workshops, training and community events
- Knowledge of the challenges and inequalities faced in disengaged communities
- Experience of partnership and collaborative working
- IT skills (including Microsoft Office)
You will have the following qualities which are essential to this role:
- Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
- Excellent organisational skills and ability to prioritise and balance your workload
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to motivate and empower others
Other requirements: Regular travel within Fife is necessary to visit community projects and attend events. The post holder may also be required occasionally to travel out with Fife via public transport. Travel expenses will be reimbursed.
33 days inclusive of public holidays, per annum pro rata The post-holder will be subject to a Disclosure Scotland check
