Community Radio Fund Opens for Second 2016/17 Round

News/Events Category: Funding and FinanceThe Community Radio Fund is managed by Ofcom with funding from the Department for Culture, Media and Sport. To be eligible for funding, radio stations must be not-for-profit, run by local people for local people about local issues.
Funding is available for community radio licensees broadcasting under a community radio licence in the UK to cover costs including:
- Fundraising to support the station;
- Management;
- Administration;
- Financial management and reporting;
- Community outreach;
- Volunteer organisation and support.
There are two funding rounds per year with approximately £200,000 available for each round. There is no set level of funding. As a guideline, however, the average grant in the first funding round was £16,780, with grants ranging from £3,000 to £33,897.
Grants will be made as a single lump sum, and are to cover a one-year period only.
Priority will be given to Licensees that have not been awarded a grant in previous funding rounds and to newly-licensed stations.
The Panel considers promoting long-term sustainability a critical, core activity and thus priority will also be given to applications that focus on posts that promote long-term financial security and may become self-sustaining.
The closing date for applications is 5.00pm on Wednesday 16 November 2016.
